Do not support the Congress in Parliamentary polls: youth
EMOTIONAL APPEAL: A youth appealing to voters in a bus in Tirunelveli.
TIRUNELVELI: Even as leaders and cadres of the political parties are appealing to the voters to support their candidates, a group of youths, attached to ‘Vallinam Thamizhar Kalam’, is falling at the feet of every voter with an appeal: “Don’t support the Congress in the ensuing Parliamentary polls”.
The reason, according to them: “The national party failed to protect the Sri Lankan Tamils”.
The youths, who got into every bus parked at Tirunelveli Junction bus-stand on Saturday evening, explained loudly the situation prevailing in Sri Lanka and the attacks being unleashed by the armed forces. The placard hanging from the neck of one Siva said that the Tamil race would not support the Congress, which “failed” to save the Sri Lankan Tamils.
“Innocent children, women, aged and the physically challenged who don’t carry any arm, are being hunted down in the heavy shelling and aerial attack. The Congress Government at the Centre, which has the duty of protecting the Tamils from being wiped out, is not willing to do so. Hence, my dear Tamil voters don’t support the Congress candidates in the election,” they said, even as some of the women passengers started crying and the men voters are listening to them seriously.
Once the speech is over, they fell at the feet of every voter and pressed their only appeal once again.
“We’ll visit all the constituencies wherever the Congress has fielded its candidates,” they said.
